A Lifeline in Winter: How You Can Help Our Neighbors in Need

At Heart, Love & Soul, our mission has always been to extend a helping hand to those in need and to foster a sense of community and care. Yesterday’s tragic news has deeply shaken us all. We were heartbroken to learn of the passing of an unhoused individual who succumbed to the unforgiving winter cold. Our thoughts are with their loved ones and everyone in our community grieving this loss.

This tragedy underscores the urgency of addressing homelessness and ensuring that no one is left without the support and resources they need. In response, we have created downloadable and printable resource cards that provide essential information for individuals experiencing homelessness. These cards include details about local shelters, food pantries, and outreach programs—a lifeline for those in need of immediate assistance.

How You Can Help

We believe that compassion and action go hand in hand. As the cold weather persists, here are some ways you can contribute to supporting our unhoused neighbors:

  • Pack Winter Kits: Assemble kits containing gloves, socks, scarves, snacks, hand warmers, and other essentials. Keep these kits in your car to distribute when you encounter someone in need.
  • Carry Resource Cards: Print and share the resource cards we’ve created to connect individuals with vital local services.
  • Donate to Local Organizations: Support groups like Heart, Love & Soul, Community Missions of Niagara Frontier, and Niagara Gospel Mission, which provide food, supplies, and case management to those in need.
  • Follow Local Organizations on Social Media: Stay informed, join the conversation, and amplify efforts to address homelessness in our community.
  • Check on Others: If you know someone who may be at risk of homelessness, reach out to them and offer assistance before a crisis occurs.

Our Commitment to Action

At Heart, Love & Soul, our case managers and outreach professionals work diligently to support those in need. You may have seen our van traveling through the city, stocked with backpacks filled with food, cold-weather supplies, and other essentials. Our team actively seeks out individuals experiencing homelessness, offering aid and connecting them with resources.

If you see someone in need in Niagara Falls, we urge you to call us at 716-282-5687. Share their location, and our team will do everything possible to provide assistance. If no one is available to answer your call immediately, please leave a message, and our Gateway coordinator will return your call promptly.
