Brian Archie is a dedicated board member for Heart, Love & Soul, bringing a wealth of experience and public perspective to our council. His leadership, service, and resilience have made him a driving force in Niagara Falls. As the Executive Director of Create a Healthier Niagara Falls Collaborative, a city councilman, and an advocate for racial and social justice, Brian is committed to the idea that “we are only as healthy as our neighbors.”
A Life Shaped by Community
Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Brian grew up in Unity Park, where he experienced firsthand the power of a tight-knit community. Surrounded by family, neighbors, and mentors who looked out for one another, he learned the importance of collective care and responsibility.
His early education was a blend of different worlds—Catholic school during the week and a Baptist church on weekends. It wasn’t until third grade that he became aware of racial differences, an eye-opening moment that gave him a unique perspective on identity and inclusion.
A proud graduate of Niagara Falls High School’s Class of 1991 (Go Powercats!), Brian faced many of the same challenges as his peers. However, he found grounding in teachers and mentors from his own community who recognized his potential and fostered the belief that there was more for him beyond the familiar. These key figures helped guide him toward new possibilities and a brighter future.
His core philosophy: “There’s always an opportunity to grow new grass.” No matter where someone is in life, there is always hope and the ability to build a better future.
A Journey of Service
Brian’s path to leadership was not linear. He started his career as a collector and, wanting more, transitioned into healthcare. A pivotal encounter with a nurse changed his trajectory. She saw something in him—a spark of leadership—and invited him to a Resident Engagement Council meeting for Create a Healthier Niagara Falls Collaborative. That moment set him on a journey that eventually led him to become Executive Director.
His work in public health and community development stems from a simple but powerful belief: a healthy community is built on more than just medical care. It requires access to food, safe housing, reliable transportation, economic stability, and civic engagement. Brian excels in bringing people together, navigating difficult conversations, and connecting individuals with the resources they need.
Black History Month: A Time to Reflect and Inspire
For Brian, Black History Month is a vital opportunity to honor the contributions of African Americans—not just in the nation, but at home, in the Niagara Falls region. He sees it as a chance to reconnect people with their history and serve as a beacon for those searching for guidance.
“People need to be reminded of who their ancestors are,” Brian says. “There’s a life for us beyond the systems of oppression we face. Those who fight against teaching this history don’t want people to know their full potential. Equity isn’t about taking from others; it’s about ensuring everyone has the same opportunities.”
His commitment to representation is unwavering. He knows firsthand the power of visibility and the impact it has on young people who need to see themselves in leadership roles.
“If Not Me, Then Who?”
When it comes to civic engagement, Brian is passionate about encouraging others to take an active role. He believes many people don’t participate in local government because they feel disconnected or disillusioned. “Showing up is the first step,” he says. “Stop relying on secondhand information—go to the meetings, listen, and get involved.”
His call to action is simple: if you want change, be part of it. Whether through advocacy, voting, or community service, everyone has a role to play in shaping a better future. “If not me, then who?” he asks. “We can’t keep waiting for someone else to step up.”
A Legacy of Leadership
Brian Archie’s story is one of transformation, leadership, and hope. From his roots in Unity Park to his work in health justice and civic engagement, he continues to be a driving force for positive change. Through his efforts, he is not only building a healthier Niagara Falls but also inspiring the next generation to step forward, get involved, and believe in their ability to make a difference.
