Every Friday, a little bit of magic arrives at Heart, Love & Soul—not with fanfare or fuss, but with quiet grace. That magic is Liz LaMoy.
Liz is a local artist and a generous soul who shows up week after week, simply because she wants to share her love of creativity with our guests. She brings something new each time—from painting vases and watering cans in the summer to decorating clovers for St. Patrick’s Day. Today, she brought out cupcakes and all the fixings: two kinds of frosting, jelly beans, Easter peeps, and more.
But in a peaceful corner of the room, something more quietly beautiful was unfolding.
Many of you know Chris—a familiar face in our dining room and the subject of a portrait that hangs in our Daybreak gathering space. While others decorated cupcakes, Chris was focused on a painting—deep in concentration.
When our Marketing Manager, Michael, sat down to chat with him, he shared in high school, he was a photographer. He described, in vivid detail, the process of developing black-and-white film, the smell of the darkroom chemicals, the careful timing and light.
Painting, though, is new to him—something he discovered through Liz. And he loves it. He said it uses his brain in a different way, and he loves how it makes him feel.
Liz brings him his own supplies each week—paints, paper, reference images—and when she can’t be here in person, she makes sure he’s stocked up so he can keep creating. She even has Chris’s paintings hanging throughout her own home, she values Chris and his art, as much as she values Heart, Love & Soul and our guests each week.
And here’s the most incredible part: Liz pays for all the supplies herself. She asks for nothing in return.
She’s camera shy—preferring to stay out of the spotlight—but her light shines in every corner of our space. In every brushstroke, every smile, every quiet moment of joy she helps create.
Liz, thank you. You remind us that real generosity doesn’t need recognition—it just needs heart. And yours is one of the brightest we know.
